The Seahawks have a storied 50 years of history. The Hawks have decided to give thanks to the fans and the best players in their 50 year history by providing fan gear, as well as high-end gifts to be given to the players - with the hopes that these become display items in their homes and showrooms.
As AD, my job was to help direct our design team toward items and designs that felt undeniably Seahawks, while feeling unique, iconic and to become front and center in the 50 Legends display cases.
Give an exprience,
not a gift.
As is the case with many company gift items for higher-ups - it’s is tough to break through the noise of all of the… crap, that is given to C-Suites and Celebrities. People that are celebrated so frequently seem to be less and less effected by… crap. In iterating with the team, we tried to focus on 3 highlights.
1. Make it relevant.
2. Make it iconic.
3. Make it an experience.
The importance of packaging.
I learned that these gifts would be given publicly at a halftime show, which changed things.
The need for these gifts to be small-ish, mobile and a public surprise made a difference in how we went about creating them. The package and opening experience became just as important as the gift.
If we could surprise and delight with the way the gift is delivered, we would definitely delight with the gifts themselves.
